A foreign national cannot apply for a driver’s license in India, if they are here for a short duration or tourist visa. Your driver’s license from your native country will suffice, if you have an International driver’s permit (IDP).
You need to visit the AAA office and obtain an IDP. This IDP is valid for a year from its date of issue. If you still need a driver’s license after a year, you need to visit the RTO of your region along with your passport, proof of residence, visa, passport sized photos and proof that you will be residing in India long-term.
This is all you need to do when applying for a driver’s license in India as a foreigner.
