Great news for the tax payers in India, the Income Tax department has extended the due date for filing the IT returns 2018-19 Fiscal year to 31st August 2019. Earlier the due date was 31st July but the Government has decided to extend the due date to a month. This extension of one month time is applicable for the financial year 2018-19 i.e. the income earned from 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019.
What is the Due Date for Tax Filing 2018-19 Assessment Year?
The due date for filing the Income Tax Returns of that assessment year or financial year varies for different categories. But this time the Government of India has decided to extend the deadline to 31st August 2019 in 4 categories and they are individual tax payers, Body of individuals, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF Category), and Association of persons (AOP Category). For other categories like businesses which are required auditing it is 30th September 2019.

Penalty on Late Filing:
The due date for filing the tax returns for the assessment year was 31st July 2019, but the Government of India extended a month for filing the IT returns of financial year 2018-19. If anyone fails to file IT returns by 31st August 2019 then depending on the categories the tax payers are fined.
